A Parent

Our son Saiskandan experienced a learning challenge, the exact nature of which has not been identified so far. It manifested in two principal ways: Difficulty in reading and recall of what he had been taught or what he had learned. We approached Brindavan when he was five years of age, to seek their guidance on how to help Saiskandan cope with his academic work. The intervention by Brindavan comprised extensive conversations with him and an assessment that was carried out every year. The assessment tested whether his reading comprehension ability, to construct sentences of his own and math skills were age appropriate. The assessment helped us evolve ways of supporting him in his education.Given the limited resource room support in the school, the assessments at Brindavan enabled us as parents to help him cope with the curricular demands of the school. The assessor used those assessment sessions to also identify the learning related anxieties that he suffered from as well as the lack of self-confidence that was holding him back. That in turn helped us evolve an approach to parenting that we may not have thought of in the absence of the inputs from those sessions.
