A parent in our Parent Course conducted by BET, told the faculty that her child would get stressed and anxious when he had to speak in English. He had difficulties in other areas of academics also. The faculty suggested the Language Experience Approach which combined all the subskills – Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing.
This is the strategy the mother used: After discussing an experience in which the entire family participated; the child would narrate the experience in his own words in English and the mother would write it down. Language developed and got reinforced. Reading skills improved when he read about an experience in his own words, as narrated by him.
