Overview
The Pre vocational Centre at Brindavan has been set up to cater to the needs of children who are not able to complete their formal schooling through the conventional board exams. This group of children are fully capable both cognitively and functionally to undertake skilling courses leading to direct employment. The Pre vocational program at Brindavan equips this group, over a period of 4-5 years, starting from the age of 14, to develop the skills needed to enroll in identified and specific vocational training programs such as in the area of multimedia, horticulture, bakery arts and the hospitality industry at the age of 18+.
The skills acquired will be profiled and with the support of counselling, aptitude testing and networking, they will be able to identify interest and strength areas so as to continue their training in specific vocational programs.
The Four-year Pre vocational program
The centre works on skill development at a Pre vocational level in the areas of
- Functional literacy and math
- Digital Literacy program (Typing skills, MS Office)
- Verbal and Non-Verbal Communication skills
- Life skills
- Introduction to Pre vocational skills such as multimedia, bakery arts, horticulture, book keeping, front office.
This training in skills along with basic academics helps them express, follow, focus and create. Application of what has been learnt is one of the most important takeaways from the center. Importance is given to life skills and preparing individuals to function independently to make them an integral part of the community.
The Pre vocational center also has an 18-month Multi-Media program that it runs in collaboration with AIMS Media. This program progresses from sketching in a sketchbook to MS Paint and then Adobe Photoshop. Learning to create posters, portraits, collages and make videos are just some of the many things that the program has to offer. AIMS Media works with special schools and provides a dynamic, meaningful curriculum, that provides an innovative, hands-on learning approach that is employment oriented.
An added value service of the Pre vocational program.
Due to requests for formal certification, Brindavan has added training for the S.S.L.C. and P.U.C boards on a “upon request” basis for children who may still want to do the board exams. This will be supplementary to the main program of the Pre vocational center. Children will be evaluated and enrolled for the S.S.L.C. or the P.U.C. (for those who have completed the S.S.L.C)
S.S.L.C.
Students are trained for the state board exam. Enrolment in the Pre vocational program is a prerequisite for training for the S.S.L.C. board exam.
P.U.C.
Pre-University exam training in the arts stream. Enrolment in the Pre vocational program is a prerequisite.
