Parent Support Group

Parent Support Group

Overview

Support group is a place for people to give and receive emotional and practical support and also to exchange information. Parents need support from each other to cope with the challenges while parenting their child with special needs and also to bring out the best in their children.

Keeping this in mind Brindavan Parent support group (PSG) was started way back in 2000. The two great achievements of this group are: firstly, parents collaborated and saw to it that the Karnataka PU board included SLD in the specially-abled category. Secondly, PSG was instrumental in getting the second language exemption for specially-abled in Karnataka PU course.

The Brindavan parent support group meets once a month on second Saturdays between 10.30 and 12 noon. These meetings are addressed by Resource persons having expertise in different fields. Two half a day workshops are held in a year. Once in 2 to 3 years an Education and Vocational fair is organised.

Brindavan PSG has now spread its wings by including other non-Brindavan parents into its fold. Membership amount of Rs. 1000/ is collected as annual subscription from non-Brindavan Parents and Rs. 500/ from Brindavan Parents.

Every year two parents each from Jayanagar and JP Nagar centres are selected as volunteers. They are guided and supported by teacher, coordinator and co-coordinator of the PSG.
